Preventing Crime By Treating Addictions Solution To Soaring Violent Crime Rate Crime rates soar in Manitoba as NDP ignores addiction WINNIPEG- The NDP have buried their head in the sand for 12 years ignoring the role addiction plays with crime in Manitoba. The result is a Manitoba spike in violent crime that has splashed on headlines nation-wide. Manitoba Liberals are the only party to identify the role addictions play in crime and the only party with a strategy to deal with it. “The wait-times to get addictions treatment under the NDP are unacceptable,” says Mantoba Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard. “Our goal is to prevent crime from happening in the first place. A strong addictions strategy will make communities safer for everyone.” Studies show that in up to 70% of violent crimes, there has been substance abuse. The first year of this commitment would see a $1.2 million investment that would go to different addictions treatment facilities such as the Behavioral Foundation in St. Norbert that would reduce addictions wait times. “Manitoba Liberals in the legislature would fight for better addictions funding. This is part of the Liberal plan for strong families and healthy communities.”
